Green bell pepper prices are stable on both coasts. Supplies are increasing in California; Markon First Crop (MFC) and Markon Essentials (ESS) Green Bell Peppers are available in California and Tennessee. Idaho Burbank storage crop supplies will be depleted by the third week of August. Fresh-run new crop Norkotahs are now on the market; MFC Norkotah Potatoes will be available the week of August 15. Tropical Storm Earl made landfall in Belize on Thursday, August 4. Earl will continue moving northwest into Veracruz, Mexico where limes are grown year-round. Harvesting delays and reduced shipments into South Texas are expected over the next 7 to 10 days.

Bell Peppers

• MFC and ESS Green Bell Peppers are available in California and Tennessee
• Expect the green bell market to remain stable
• Supplies are ramping up in the California coastal regions of Gilroy, Hollister, and Oxnard
• Production is increasing in Michigan and Ohio
• MFC Red Bell Peppers are sporadic; ESS Red Bell Peppers are available in California
• Prices will remain elevated through early next week
• Stocks are limited
• Extremely high temperatures are causing dehydration and shriveling
• Growers will harvest in Hollister and Oxnard over the next 10 days

Idaho Potatoes

• Idaho Burbank storage supplies continue to diminish and are expected to be depleted by the third week of August; several sheds are closed with many others set to finish next week
• New crop, fresh-run packer label Norkotahs are on the market
• MFC Norkotah Potatoes will be available the week of August 15
• Temperatures have been ideal during the new crop’s growing phase; very good quality and high yields are predicted
• New crop cartons will be higher than prices for storage crop stocks

Tropical Storm Earl

• Tropical Storm Earl made landfall Thursday morning in Belize and will continue northwest into Veracruz, Mexico, weakening to a tropical depression by Thursday night
• Winds up to 35 miles per hour are forecast for Friday and Saturday in Veracruz, Mexico, the main region for year-round lime production
• Harvesting delays and reduced shipments into South Texas are predicted over the next 7 to 10 days
• Expect prices to increase through next week as growers assess damages
