FROM THE FIELDS: Continued Use of Quality Alert Flyers in RSS Processed Items

July 22, 2016

Although quality has greatly improved over the last several weeks, problems in green leaf and romaine items such as dark outer leaves, fringe burn, insect pressure/damage, mechanical damage in the finished packs, and shortened shelf-life persist. Quality alert flyers will continue to be inserted into the cartons of the affected RSS items listed below for the next several days or until quality meets RSS specifications. Clear film will be substituted in RSS Chopped Romaine packs until flyers are pulled.

Lightly processed items such as Washed & Trimmed Green Leaf, Romaine, and Romaine Hearts are already exhibiting a marked improvement; insect pressure throughout the Salinas Valley has started subsiding as the end of summer approaches.
