UPDATE: Avocados
The avocado market will continue to climb through July; demand is strong. Mexico’s exports, the main volume contributor to the US, are approximately 50% below typical levels. The spring/Marciena crop is winding down. Stocks will remain limited until late July when Mexico’s summer/Flora Loca crop hits the market.
The avocado market will continue to climb through July; demand is strong. Mexico’s exports, the main volume contributor to the US, are approximately 50% below typical levels. The spring/Marciena crop is winding down. Stocks will remain limited until late July when Mexico’s summer/Flora Loca crop hits the market.
- Mexico’s spring crop is winding down; the summer season will not begin until mid- to late July
- Imports from Mexico are at a seasonal low with approximately 50% less volume expected to be shipped into the U.S. for the next several weeks
- Peruvian imports into the U.S. will ramp up over the next few weeks, peaking in July
- Most product is being imported for contract business
- Very little volume is being sold on the open market
- The California season is peaking and will begin to downtrend in July
- Prices are rising as a result of shortages from Mexico
- 48-count and larger sizes are tight from both areas
- Supplies are dominated by 60-count and smaller sizes
- Prices will remain extremely volatile for the next six to eight weeks (when supplies increase in late July)
