Harvesting is ending in the Arizona/California desert and Huron, California growing regions, resulting in fewer industry supplies. Expect prices for many commodities to increase over the next several weeks. Rain in the Oxnard, Santa Maria, and Watsonville, California growing areas has limited strawberry stocks; the market is climbing. This week’s volume is low, but is expected to rebound by next week, pending weather.

Broccoli and Cauliflower

• Markon First Crop (MFC) Broccoli Crowns are sporadic; Markon Best Available (MBA) will be substituted as necessary due to branchy stems
• Broccoli supplies will be sufficient for the next two weeks, but then tighten the week of April 25
• Prices are steady
• Markon Essentials Cauliflower is available
• Contract trigger levels for Ready-Set-Serve Cauliflower items are expected to be met by Monday, April 18
• The cauliflower market is elevated; stocks remain scarce

Green Leaf, Romaine, and Iceberg Prices

• MFC Premium Green Leaf and Romaine is available
• MFC Premium Iceberg is not available; MBA is being substituted due to low carton weights
• Harvesting in the Arizona/California desert and San Joaquin growing regions is ending, resulting in fewer supplies
• Prices will climb over the next several weeks

Onions

• Domestic yellow onions are in full production; red and white supplies remain limited
• Excessive heat and rain in the Northwest during last summer’s growing period decreased the quality of both yellow and red onions
• Expect comparable prices into May; supplies will remain available in multiple areas
• Full harvesting will begin in California the week of April 25

Strawberries

• Prices continue to inch up; supplies are tight
• MFC Strawberries are limited; MBA and packer label stocks are being substituted as needed
• Quality issues include bleeding, bruising, cracking, decay, soft texture, and water damage
• Stocks are expected to rebound by next week, pending weather
