UPDATE: STRAWBERRY SUPPLIES
March 10, 2021
Markets are increasing; rain and cold weather are reducing supplies in the California growing regions. Seasonal harvesting is winding down in Mexico and Florida.
Oxnard/Santa Maria, California
- Today’s weather forecast calls for .50”-.75” of rain today that will persist through tomorrow afternoon
- Evening/morning low temperatures (in the 30◦-40◦ F range) will reduce supplies as well; fruit will take longer to reach color specifications
- Stocks will tighten due to curtailed harvests
- Quality is good; production crews are working hard to keep rain-damaged berries out of packs
Mexico
- The season continues to wind down and is expected to end by mid-March
- Quality is trending down and will continue to diminish over the next 7 to 10 days
Florida
- The season will end in late March
- Supplies will decrease week over week until that time
- Variance in quality is creating a split market
- Expect declining quality over the 7 to 10 days
