UPDATE: Tomatoes

February 12, 2016

Increased supplies from Mexico and sluggish demand will continue to ease prices on both coasts. Florida stocks remain tight, but the market will adjust due to more plentiful fruit from Mexico.

  • The mature green, Roma, and vine ripe winter growing seasons in Culiacan, Mexico are finally ramping up; loading is available in Nogales, Arizona and South Texas
  • Moderate demand will persist as another winter storm is forecast in the Midwest, South, and Northeast early next week
  • Florida production will remain limited for several weeks as growers continue to cull fields affected by inclement weather
  • Prices are lower for Mexican stocks, but the market is also easing in Florida to stay competitive
  • Cherry and grape tomato prices remain elevated
    • Limited supplies are expected for several weeks
    • These varieties have been the most affected by recent cold weather
