UPDATE: GREEN LEAF, ICEBERG, AND ROMAINE
February 02, 2021
Lettuce markets remain low due to ample supplies and weakened demand.
- Demand has diminished; the storm system that began on the West Coast in late January has developed into a Nor’Easter, hitting the East Coast with heavy snowfall and high winds this week
-
Quality is very good despite late January’s substantial rains in the Arizona/California desert growing region
- Sporadic growth cracks, fringe burn, and uneven texture are present in some lots
- Premature pinking and mildew damage may arise in the coming days following heavy rain; however, initial reports are optimistic that strong quality will persist
- Expect prices to remain low over the next two to three weeks, pending any additional weather events
