Markon First Crop (MFC) Onions are readily available in the Northwest. Quality is excellent. Favorable conditions during the growing and harvesting periods resulted in plentiful storage supplies. With foodservice demand remaining uncertain, markets will remain flat.     

• Mexican yellow onions have begun to enter the U.S. (into South Texas)
  • Red and white onions will begin to cross at the end of January  
  • Loading onions in South Texas can present beneficial freight advantages
• Northwest MFC Onions will be available through May
• Texas-grown MFC Onions will enter the market in early March
• The California season is forecast to start by late April (beginning in the Imperial Valley desert region)
• The New Mexico season is expected to start June 1
