UPDATE: STRAWBERRIES
December 17, 2020
Expect tight California supplies over the next two to three weeks as Santa Maria’s fall season winds down and Oxnard’s winter harvesting begins.
Santa Maria
- Production is forecast to end over the next 7 to 10 days
- Quality is good, but cold mornings/evenings are delaying the coloring process
- The market is two-tiered; growers are making deals on older/sub-par fruit to keep coolers clear
- Cold-chain management remains a vital component in maximizing shelf-life
Oxnard
- The winter crop continues its slow start due to low temperatures; early season supplies remain limited
- Volume is expected to pick up over the next two weeks
- Mexican fruit will be available in Oxnard starting next week to supplement California’s shortfall
Mexico
- Markon Best Available (MBA) Strawberries are available
- Supplies are increasing
- Quality is good
Florida
- MBA Strawberries are available
- Supplies remain limited as fields continue to see cold, wet mornings
- Quality is good
