UPDATE: GREEN LEAF, ICEBERG, AND ROMAINE
November 25, 2020
Lettuce markets are declining as supplies increase in the Arizona/California desert regions.
- Markon First Crop (MFC) Green Leaf and Romaine are readily available
- The Arizona/California desert season is ramping up quickly
- Recent temperatures in the mid-80s helped promote growth
- MFC Iceberg is sporadic due to light weights, but is expected to be packed more frequently in the next 7 to 10 days as weights increase
- Quality is excellent: sporadic growth cracks, large ribs, and seeder are present in some lots
- Markets are lower due to weak post-Thanksgiving demand; prices are expected to decrease, even as demand rebounds, due to plentiful supplies
- Please note, COVID restrictions may greatly affect demand as foodservice establishments are forced to reduce operations
