FROM THE FIELDS: SANTA MARIA STRAWBERRIES

April 16, 2020
  • The Oxnard, California season is winding down
  • Supplies of Markon First Crop Strawberries are available out of Santa Maria, California
  • Cold temperatures, frost, and rain slowed plant growth in March and early April, delaying peak volume, but yields are expected to increase by early to mid-May for Mother’s Day
  • Quality issues such as decay, mildew, mold, and water damage are reducing yields as crews must cull plants to remove defects
  • Temperatures are expected to rise into the upper 60s and low 70s over the next 10 days
