FROM THE FIELDS: RAIN IN CALIFORNIA GROWING REGIONS
April 10, 2020
Over the last five days a series of storm systems has dropped over two inches of rain in California's Salinas Valley and over an inch in Huron. Widespread harvesting cancellations and delays have been reported across the industry.
Rain-related quality issues are expected over the next several days:
- Bottom rot
- Decay
- Mildew/mildew damage
- Premature pinking in value-added items
Current forecasts call for a slight rise in temperatures (the low 70s) into next week and cloudy and overcast conditions. No rain is currently expected over the next 10 days.
