UPDATE: Artichokes
December 16, 2015
Due to consecutive days of freezing temperatures in the California desert growing region, Oxnard and Castroville, California, artichokes will now exhibit frost related defects for approximately the next several weeks or longer depending on weather.
- The freezing temperatures cause the outside layer of the leaves to blister, then eventually turn brown which will flake and then peel
- This is only a cosmetic issue and is also known to enhance the flavor of the artichoke once cooked
- The artichoke will revert back to its natural green color after cooking
