FROM THE FIELDS: Significant Harvesting Delays

The Arizona/California desert growing region is experiencing significant harvesting delays due to muddy conditions brought on by an additional .75” of rain yesterday. Over 2.5” total rainfall has been recorded over the last seven days, making harvesting operations extremely difficult.
Markon inspectors are observing rain-related challenges in commodity and value-added lettuce and tender leaf items which include, but are not limited to:
- Bottom rot
- Decay
- Mildew
- Premature pinking/reduced shelf-life on both commodity and valued added products
- Rib blight
