FROM THE FIELDS: Rain in Arizona and California Regions

Arizona/California Desert Growing Regions
- Up to 2” of rain fell last week causing harvesting delays and cancellations
- Another .75” of rain is expected March 18-19
- Rain-related defects are limiting yields and lowering weights due to quality issues
- The season is winding down and may end prematurely due to quality concerns
Huron, California
- Up to .75” of rain fell last night into today
- Another .10” of rain is expected next Monday, March 23 and Tuesday, March 24
- Temperatures in the low to mid 60s are forecast
- Initial harvesting was supposed to start today, but will be pushed back due to muddy conditions
- This short season will have limited production this week with more companies starting to transition over the next 10 days
Salinas, California
- Over 1.5” of rain fell yesterday with scattered showers expected today
- Another 1” of rain is forecast for March 22-March 29
- Fields are still young and no major harvesting issues are predicted
- Markon inspectors will continue to report on quality issues that may develop
