FROM THE FIELDS: West Coast Rain

A large, cut-off, low pressure system will impact key growing regions along the West Coast and Desert Southwest starting today and continuing into Wednesday, March 11. Growers are monitoring conditions and have been packing ahead when needed to ensure Markon orders are covered.
Santa Maria & Oxnard
- On and off rain is expected today, then steady rain Tuesday into Wednesday, March 10 and 11 with 1.00” – 1.75” total possible rainfall
- The impact on strawberry production and quality will be dependent on actual rainfall totals, but some disruption is expected
- Value-added cilantro, parsley, and commodity/value-added celery may see production delays and rain-related quality issues
Arizona/California Desert Region
- Showers are forecast for early Tuesday, March 10 through Wednesday morning, March 11
- Rainfall totals may range from .25” to .75”
- Harvesting and loading delays are expected for all desert row crops
- Rain-related quality and shelf-life issues in commodity and value-added lettuce and tender leaf items will follow the storm
