Cooler-than-normal temperatures have slowed squash production and significantly reduced yields. Supplies are very tight in all regions; markets are on the rise.

West Coast

• Markon First Crop (MFC) Yellow Squash and Zucchini from Mexico (into Nogales, Arizona) is limited; packer label is being substituted as needed
• Cooler-than-normal temperatures and strong winds have caused bloom drop, scarring, growth cracking, and very light pollination
• Yellow squash volume is extremely low, while zucchini stock are a bit more readily available
• New crop production will start in Hermosillo and Guaymas, Sonora in early March
• Expect elevated markets for the next 7 to 10 days

East Coast

• MFC Yellow Squash and Zucchini from Florida is tight; packer label is being substituted as needed
• Stronger demand due to low Mexican volume is increasing prices in Florida, especially those for yellow squash
• Markets will continue to rise as Florida is expecting rain and cold weather over the next few days, which will slow growth and harvesting
• Pricing will remain elevated for one to two weeks
