For the third consecutive day, early morning temperatures have dipped into the low-to mid-30s, causing widespread lettuce ice in the Arizona/California desert growing region. Harvesting crews have been scheduled later in anticipation of the ice and are not expected to begin production until sometime between 9:30-10:30 AM (MST).

Today’s daytime highs will be roughly 5-8 degrees below normal, with max temperatures in the low-to mid-60s. Forecasts are calling for gradual warming through the week as high pressure builds, but decreasing levels of lettuce ice can be expected over the next three mornings.

Markon inspectors are evaluating field conditions, and will continue to update the membership on the impact of ice on the quality and supplies of lettuce and other row crop items in the desert region.
