FOOD SAFETY UPDATE: Tailor Cut Produce Recalls Cut Fruit Due to Salmonella Outbreak

December 09, 2019

This update does not apply to any Markon First Crop, Ready-Set-Serve, or Markon Essentials products.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Pennsylvania Department of Health (DOH) are investigating an outbreak of illnesses caused by Salmonella Javiana in Pennsylvania. The DOH reports there are 31 laboratory-confirmed illnesses of Salmonella at four healthcare facilities in southeast Pennsylvania. Epidemiologic and traceback evidence indicate that fruit mix with cantaloupe, honeydew, pineapple, and grapes from Tailor Cut Produce are a potential source of this outbreak.

Tailor Cut Produce of North Brunswick, New Jersey, is recalling its Fruit luau, cut honeydew, cut cantaloupe and cut pineapple products as a result of the outbreak investigation because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. The recalled fruit products come in 2/1 gallon cases and were distributed in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York and Delaware between November 15 and December 1, 2019.

Distributors who have purchased the cut fruit products dated November 15 – December 1 are urged to quarantine them and to call for further instructions. Consumers with questions may contact Tailor Cut Produce at 732-246-2002.

No Markon orders are affected by this recall, please remember to check for any purchases outside Markon.
