Another storm front is forecast to move through Santa Maria and Oxnard, California’s strawberry growing regions this weekend. Depending on the severity of the rain, harvesting may be canceled for  Saturday and/or Sunday. Supplies will be extremely tight next week while harvesting crews strip water-damaged fruit from plants. Expect reduced shelf-life caused by weather-related quality issues such as decay, bruising, and mold. Limited new crop harvesting has begun in Florida and Mexico, but volume will not increase until mid-December.

• California quality and supply levels have been heavily affected by wet weather
  • Santa Maria and Lompoc stocks are virtually non-existent
  • Oxnard volume is not expected to recover until mid- to late December
• New crop Mexican stocks are available for loading in South Texas and Yuma, Arizona
  • Volume is low, but will increase as the weather improves
  • Prices are high
• New crop Florida berries have begun shipping in a limited way
  • Expect tight stocks for the next two weeks
  • Markon First Crop Strawberries will be available in one- and two-pound clamshells in mid- to late December
• Pricing remains elevated; stocks are tight
