Markon First Crop (MFC) Onions from Colorado, Idaho, Oregon, Utah, and Washington are readily available. All onions are being shipped out of storage. Markon anticipates relatively steady prices for yellow and white onions through the holiday seasons. The red onion market will increase over the next several weeks as yields are down due to elevated temperatures during the growing season.  

Colorado

• MFC Red and Yellow Onions will be available through March     
• Size profile will be normal for all colors

Idaho/Oregon

• MFC Red and Yellow Onions will be on the market through late April/early May
• Jumbo and larger sizes will dominate the crop
• Supplies from this region will possess a globe-like shape, firm texture, and moderately spicy flavor  

Texas

• MFC Red and Yellow Onions will be on the market beginning late March/early April     
• Size profile will be normal for all colors
• Plantings are 90% complete, meaning that the majority of the crop avoided the heavy rain that occurred in late October
• Packer label onions from Mexico will begin to cross over into the state of Texas in late January/early February

Utah

• MFC Red and Yellow Onions will be shipped through late March
• Jumbo sizes remain the most readily available; colossal and super colossal sizes are limited

Washington

• MFC Red and Yellow Onions will be on the market through late April   
• Supplies from this region will possess a globe-like shape, firm texture, and moderately spicy flavor
• Yields are down approximately 15% compared to last season; the market will increase in January 2016
