Salinas Valley Row Crops (Iceberg, Romaine, Broccoli, and Cauliflower)
-
Limited iceberg lettuce harvesting has begun in Huron, California
- Salinas Valley stocks remain limited, which will keep markets elevated
- Shipments between Salinas and Huron typically overlap, helping equalize available supplies, but this year nature has disrupted growing schedules
- Volume will be extremely low through November due to damage caused by a rain/hail storm in the desert in late September
Melons
-
Markon First Crop Cantaloupes and Honeydews are now available from the Arizona/California desert region
- The crop is expected to favor large sizes such as 9-count cantaloupes and 5-count honeydews
- Desert supplies will ship through Thanksgiving, at which point the crop will transition 100% to Mexico and offshore regions for the winter
- Mexican and offshore stocks are a few weeks away from entering the market
Tomatoes
-
Lower volume is expected for the next two to three weeks
- California production is winding down
- The Florida season is getting a slow start
- Mexican supplies are starting to increase; growers are transitioning to fall plantings
- East Coast prices will follow Mexican markets upward as demand increases
