UPDATE: Fall 2019 Harvesting Transition
September 27, 2019
The Salinas Valley growing season is entering its final stretch before transitioning south to the Arizona/California desert growing regions. Expect prices to fluctuate during the months of October and November.
- High September temperatures increased growth in the Salinas and Santa Maria regions; both seasons are now expected to end approximately two weeks earlier than scheduled
- Expect quality issues to decrease yields and create supply challenges over the next several weeks
- Markets will begin to rapidly fluctuate the week of October 7, as California’s San Joaquin Valley (Huron growing district) harvest will not ramp up until the week of October 14
- Recent poor weather conditions in the Arizona desert area will more than likely delay production, adding more pressure to the November market
