Lettuce growing regions east of Yuma, Arizona (Tacna, Welton, and Roll) experienced brief, sporadic hail storms yesterday.

• Iceberg lettuce grown in this region is typically the first of the winter plantings to be harvested; damage to fields at this stage in the growing season would be irreparable 
• Suppliers are assessing crop damage today; more information will be available as the week progresses
• Growers and processors will also be looking at other regions within the desert area as well as extending availability in Salinas and Huron in order to assure sufficient supply for the early weeks of transition (mid-November) 
• Markon expects limited stocks throughout the desert transition and into mid-/late November
