UPDATE: Idaho Potatoes
September 20, 2019
Idaho potato prices have eased; the new crop harvest continues to progress.
- New crop harvesting is expected to be completed in late October
- Once harvesting has ended, growers typically gain control of supply levels, pushing up prices
- Strong retail demand for Thanksgiving will begin in early November; carton prices will decrease as more raw product enters the market to run orders for retail bags
- Large-size Idaho Norkotah stocks (40- through 70-count potatoes) remain limited; small-size potatoes (90- through 100-count supplies) are ample
- Quality is very good: the majority of fresh-run Norkotahs are meeting U.S. No. 1 grade specifications, limiting No. 2 production
