UPDATE: Fall 2015 Harvesting Transition

The fall harvesting transition from the Salinas Valley to Huron, California (San Joaquin Valley) and finally to the Yuma, Arizona/California desert growing region is underway. Some light supplies of romaine, green leaf and iceberg is still being harvested in Salinas, but will be 100% concluded by the week of November 23rd.

 

Light supplies and elevated markets are still expected over the next several weeks as the industry transitions from the Salinas Valley to the Yuma/California desert growing region. 

 

Below are approximate transition dates (dates are subject to change):

 

Week of November 2

  • Limited supplies of Markon Branded iceberg is being harvested in Yuma, Arizona
  • Light harvesting of packer label iceberg lettuce, romaine and green leaf will also begin in Yuma
  • Harvesting of Markon Branded resumes in Huron, California
  • Markon Branded Romaine and Green Leaf is being harvested in Salinas
  • Transfers to Salinas from Yuma and Huron will be an option (transfer fees apply)

Week of November 9 and November 16

  • Markon Branded Green Leaf, Iceberg, and Romaine will be available in Yuma and Coachella, California
  • Light supplies of Markon Branded green leaf and romaine is still being harvested in Salinas
  • Light supplies of Markon Branded iceberg is still being harvested in Huron
  • Transfers to Salinas from Yuma and Huron will be an option (transfer fees apply)
  • Markon is requesting early purchase orders for trucks shipping the week of November 16th due Ready-Set-Serve(RSS) Processers breaking down equipment to resume processing in Yuma, November 23rd

Week of November 23

  • Processors of Ready-Set-Serve (RSS) salads, RSS Washed & Trimmed items, and cello-wrapped products are scheduled to begin processing and loading in Yuma
  • 100% of Markon Branded iceberg, romaine and green leaf will be harvested and loaded in Yuma, Arizona and Coachella, California
  • MFC celery will be harvested in Coachella, California and Oxnard, California; transfers to Yuma, Arizona will be available (transfer fees from Oxnard, California will be applied)
