FROM THE FIELDS: Value-Added Salad Items

August 29, 2019

Temperatures continue to remain above-normal across California’s Central Coast (Salinas, Santa Maria, and Oxnard).

Value-added iceberg, romaine, and tender leaf items are exhibiting quality issues. Persistent warm, humid conditions in Salinas and Oxnard, California have caused bolting/long core/seeders, dehydration, and internal burn/tip burn.

The issues are not widespread, but they are difficult to detect and eliminate completely. Expect reduced shelf-life over the next two weeks or possibly longer.
