UPDATE SUMMARY: WEEK OF AUGUST 12, 2019
August 15, 2019
Cilantro
- Ready-Set-Serve Washed & Trimmed Cilantro supplies are limited due to quality and shelf-life challenges
- Warmer-than-normal temperatures and high humidity are affecting California’s Central Coast growing regions (Salinas Valley, Santa Maria, and Ventura County), increasing plant maturity and creating immature leaves that turn yellow/brown, then decay
Cucumbers
- Baja, Mexico is the primary growing region for West Coast cucumbers at this time of year; high temperatures have caused bloom drop, resulting in low yields for most growers
-
East Coast cucumbers are available out of Michigan and New York
- Weather has been favorable
- Quality is average
- Expect limited availability and high prices for the next four to six weeks (through September)
Idaho Potatoes
New Crop Burbanks

- Fresh-run packer label supplies will be on the market while harvesting takes place
- Markon First Crop (MFC) Burbank Potatoes will enter the market in late October

- Prices will remain elevated through early September
- Size is dominated by 80- through 100-count potatoes; 40- through 70-count sizes are limited
- Order lead-time and flexible loading dates will be needed for coverage
