FOOD SAFETY UPDATE: MULTISTATE OUTBREAK OF SALMONELLA LINKED TO DEL MONTE VEGETABLE TRAYS

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and state partners investigated an outbreak of Salmonella Infantis with cases reported in Wisconsin and Minnesota. FDA inspected the Del Monte facility that produced vegetable trays that the Wisconsin Department of Health Services linked to the outbreak of salmonellosis. FDA also investigated distribution and supplier information for produce used in the vegetable trays. The investigation activities did not identify a single source or potential point of contamination for this outbreak.

What we know:

  • Del Monte Vegetable trays sold at Kwik Trip convenience stores in Minnesota and Wisconsin were linked to the outbreak
    • 5 total illnesses; 0 deaths
  • Patients reported becoming ill beginning in April 13, 2019
  • Last illness onset date was May 15, 2019
  • FDA inspected the Del Monte facility, located in Kankakeem, Illinois
  • Investigation activities of the distribution and supplier information did not identify a single source or potential point of contamination for this outbreak
