FROM THE FIELDS: Strawberry Harvest Update
California’s Salinas and Watsonville growing regions began receiving a steady, light drizzle early this morning that is creating wet field conditions. Strawberry cartons are becoming wet as they brush by the plants during the harvesting process. Growers are sending pallets to the cooler as soon as they are packed to limit exposure to the elements, but expect to see some boxes that are wet/soggy. Additional measures will be taken at the cooler to prevent overly saturated pallets from shipping.
The wet conditions are not affecting the berry quality, which is currently very good.
