UPDATE: Rain Affecting California Strawberry Production

Unseasonable rain events occurred in the Santa Maria and Watsonville, California growing regions from Wednesday May 15 through Sunday May 19, reducing strawberry supplies. Expect lower volume and rain-related quality issues over the next two weeks.
- Santa Maria received approximately one inch of rain in some areas; harvesting crews are entering fields today, culling damaged fruit
- Salinas/Watsonville received two inches of rain; another storm is expected to hit tomorrow, May 21, bringing another quarter of an in of rain
- Bleeding, bruising, and water-damaged berries may be present in finished packs
