FROM THE FIELDS: Lettuce Ice in the Desert Region

December 27, 2018

The Arizona/California desert growing region will be experiencing harvesting delays of up to two hours today due to sporadic lettuce ice. Early morning temperatures dropped into the mid-30s. Later today, the region is expecting strong winds and a chance for rain, although total rainfall should not be higher than .05”.

Varying levels of lettuce ice will continue over the next few days, with coldest temperatures expected on Saturday, December 29 and Sunday, December 30, due to another strong low pressure system. Widespread, heavy lettuce ice will cause significant harvesting and loading delays over the weekend.
