Hurricane Florence

  • Hurricane Florence is expected to make landfall tonight, Thursday, September 13
  • The system is expected to move slowly once it makes landfall, lingering over North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, and Virginia into early next week; rainfall amounts are forecast as high as 20”-30” in some areas
  • Freight rates are climbing across the country due to increased demand for trucks; expect limited availability of trucks across the nation
  • Prices will rise and supplies will tighten for many commodities, including:
    • Bell peppers
    • Cabbage
    • Corn
    • Cucumbers
    • Squash
    • Sweet Potatoes
    • Tomatoes

Limes

  • Markon First Crop Limes are available from Mexico (loading in McAllen, Texas)
  • Availability is tightening up, but supplies remain adequate due to weak demand
  • A tropical storm is developing in the southeastern Gulf of Mexico that may bring more wet weather later this week/early next week
  • The market will climb
