UPDATE: Hurricane Florence
September 12, 2018
Hurricane Florence is approximately 485 miles offshore and is expected to make landfall tomorrow morning, Thursday, September 13.
- The storm remains a Category 4 Hurricane at this time (with sustained wind speeds of 130 mph)
- The system is expected to move slowly once it makes landfall, lingering over North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, and Virginia into early next week; rainfall amounts are forecast as high as 20”-30” in some areas
- Already saturated soil from previous wet weather is expected to cause significant flooding across major growing areas
- Freight rates are climbing across the country due to increased demand for trucks; the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is paying carriers top dollar to send in supplies for relief efforts causing limited availability on trucks across the nation

Expect prices to rise and supplies to tighten for many commodities, including:
- Bell peppers
- Cabbage
- Corn
- Cucumbers
- Squash
- Sweet Potatoes
- Tomatoes
