UPDATE: Hurricane Florence
September 10, 2018
Hurricane Florence is currently located approximately 600 miles southeast of Bermuda and will move northwest towards the Carolinas over the next three days.
- The storm is expected to strengthen as it moves west towards North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia
- The National Hurricane Center has forecast Florence to become a major hurricane (Category 3 or 4) by the time it makes landfall Thursday, September 13
- Florence may become only the fourth Category 4 hurricane to make landfall north of Georgia
- The Fall Bell Pepper, Cucumber, Squash, and Tomato seasons are under way in Western North Carolina; the Michigan season is winding down
- Expect eastern vegetable production to be heavily impacted by significant rainfall and strong winds
- Prices will rise next week
