UPDATE: Garlic

The California garlic market remains elevated. Prices for imported product (from China, Mexico, and Spain) are much lower than those for California product. The 2018 new crop harvest is underway and yielding more pounds per acre compared to 2017 yields. Availability is expected to remain adequate for the foreseeable future.

- Current supplies are adequate and expected to fill storage with enough product to last until 2019 new crop stocks are shipped

Increased harvesting and production costs, as well as strong demand for California garlic, is keeping prices elevated
- Imported product from China, Mexico, and Spain are selling for much less on both coasts
- The quality of California product is considered much better, selling for a premium over imported garlic
- Despite increased stocks, California garlic prices are not expected to ease much this season due to strong demand
