UPDATE: Lemons
June 20, 2018
Lemon prices are rising; domestic California supplies are tightening. The Southern California growing region will be the primary harvesting area for domestic lemons until new crop Arizona fruit hits the market in September. Strong demand and limited availability will continue to drive up prices.
- Markon First Crop and Markon Essentials Lemons are sporadic; packer label is being substituted as needed
-
Harvesting has fully transitioned from the San Joaquin Valley, California to the Southern California coastal region
- Shelf-life is shorter due to coastal growing conditions during the summer months
- Order lead-time is highly encouraged
- Markon recommends ordering for quick turns
-
Expect prices to continue climbing through the summer
- Limited supplies of offshore Chilean and Argentine lemons are available
- Color, packs, flavor, and pricing is comparable to domestic fruit
- Mexican lemons will hit the market in late July/early August
