FROM THE FIELDS: Rain in the Salinas Valley
Rain began falling in California’s Salinas Valley Sunday evening, April 15, and continued off and on through the night. Spotty showers and a chance for isolated thunderstorms are expected today, although most areas will see only .25” of total rainfall. In addition to the rain, temperatures will be much cooler through tomorrow, April 17, followed by another .10-.20” of rain that will arrive Wednesday evening, April 18.
Poor field conditions will cause harvesting and loading delays for Salinas row crops over the next few days. Growers will take measures to keep cartons as clean and dry as possible; some dirt/mud can be expected in and on field-packed cartons.
