Cooler-than-normal temperatures are forecast this week in Mexico’s primary growing regions for bell peppers, cucumbers, and squash. Lighter yields and fewer supplies will cause markets to rise into next week.

West Coast

• Markon First Crop (MFC) Bell Peppers, Cucumbers, and Squash are available in Mexico (into Nogales, Arizona)
• Unseasonably cool temperatures and recent scattered showers are slowing production this week in the main growing region of Culiacan, Sinaloa and Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico
• Temperatures are expected to dip in the low-to-mid 40s, which is about ten degrees cooler than normal
• Crop growth will slow and yields will decrease
• Product will exhibit irregular sizing and quality issues such as discoloration and scarring
• Markets will continue to rise for the next 7-10 days and then stabilize when weather begins to improve

East Coast

• MFC Green Bell Peppers, Cucumbers, and Squash are available in Florida
• Weather in Florida is ideal for peppers and squash
• Cucumbers from Honduras are in ample supply
• Greater demand from lack of supplies crossing from Mexico will increase markets in Florida
• Markets will remain elevated into next week
