Colder-than-normal weather is forecast this week in primary growing regions in Florida, Mexico, and Texas. Lower yields and tighter supplies may cause prices to rise.

Southeast

• A limited supply of Markon First Crop (MFC) Green Bell Peppers, Cucumbers, Squashes, and Strawberries are available in Florida
• Another cold front is forecast to hit Florida Wednesday, January 17 and Thursday, January 18, which will limit production
• Temperatures will dip into the mid-20s in Northern Florida and the low to mid-30s as far south as Immokalee (Southern Florida)
• Harvesting will be delayed for most commodities including bell peppers, cabbage, citrus, cucumbers, squashes, and strawberries
• Low yields will keep markets elevated into next week

Northern Mexico & Southern Texas

• Mexican-grown MFC Bell Peppers, Cucumbers, and Squashes are available in Nogales, Arizona; packer label supplies are available for loading in South Texas
• Areas of South Texas are experiencing freezing temperatures; ice and snow warnings are in place
  • Poor road conditions will delay shipments Wednesday, January 17 and Thursday, January 18
  • Commodities such as cabbage and citrus that are grown in the region will be affected
  • Expect higher prices and scarce supplies
• Low temperatures will swing as far south as Culiacan, Sinaloa (Northern Mexico) this weekend and into early next week, affecting commodities such as bell peppers, cucumbers, and squashes
• Temperatures will dip into the mid-40s (approximately ten degrees cooler than normal)
• Production will slow and yields will decrease
• Prices may inch up next week
