Prices for many Salinas Valley commodity items are easing. Most markets are softening due to weaker post-Fourth of July demand. Increasing regionally grown supplies throughout the United States and Canada will further ease demand for West Coast vegetables.

Green Leaf, Iceberg, and Romaine

• Iceberg and romaine pricing has dipped into the low teens; orders will be adjusted for loading Wednesday, July 8 through Saturday, July 11
• Markon First Crop (MFC) Premium Iceberg will be adjusted down by approximately $1.50
• MFC Premium Romaine will be lowered by approximately $1.00
• MFC Premium Green Leaf will be adjusted down by approximately $.50
• Packer label green leaf, iceberg, and romaine will be lowered  according to individual supplier and growing region
• Overall West Coast quality remains good; fog burn, fringe burn, and mildew are occasional issues
• Iceberg carton weights are increasing slightly into the mid- to high 40-pound range
• Multiple growing regions in Eastern Canada, Colorado, Michigan, New Jersey, and other parts of the U.S. are harvesting summer crops
• Expect slightly lower prices into next week

Broccoli, Cauliflower, and Celery

• The broccoli market will be steady to slightly higher into next week; demand for West Coast-grown broccoli is increasing 
• Cauliflower prices are steady to slightly higher; Santa Maria has abundant supplies, however Salinas stocks are tightening 
• The celery market is starting to inch up; large sizes (24- and 30-count supplies) are tightening
