FROM THE FIELDS: Iceberg Lettuce in Salinas, California
August 03, 2017
Markon inspectors have begun observing elevated levels of long core/seeder in iceberg lettuce supplies from California’s Salinas Valley. The warm days and nights experienced recently are the cause of the problem, which affects yields more so than quality. Many stocks are also exhibiting dense texture.
Temperatures are cooling to seasonal norms over the next few days, but these issues may persist for the next one or two weeks. Markon inspectors are working with growers and value-added salad suppliers to select the best product available for Markon orders.
