Cilantro

• Abnormally high temperatures in California and Mexico are causing premature breakdown in Ready-Set-Serve (RSS) Cilantro packs
• RSS Washed & Trimmed Cilantro is sporadic due to quality; packer label will be substituted as needed
• Yellowing is decreasing field and processing yields; decay is being seen in some finished product
• Prices remain steady

Melons

• Markon First Crop (MFC) Cantaloupe and Honeydew Melons will be sporadic for the next two weeks
• Expect increased supplies by late next week as production increases
• Abnormally high temperatures have caused inconsistent maturity, low sugar levels, softness, and reduced shelf-life; expect better quality by late next week
• Cantaloupe and honeydew melon prices will remain elevated over the next ten days

Oranges

• MFC and Markon Essentials Valencia Oranges are sporadic; packer label supplies will be substituted as needed
• Offshore oranges will be necessary to meet summer and fall demand
  • Imports will have PLU stickers
  • Prices will be higher than those for domestic fruit
• 72-hour lead time is highly encouraged through September due to tight supplies and reduced packing hours
• The market is elevated and will continue to climb through the summer months

Pears

• MFC Washington D’Anjou Pears will be available through the second week of July
• The California Bartlett season will begin the week of July 10
• Remaining Washington fruit is of excellent quality; stocks are dominated by large fruit (80- and 100-count sizes)
• California packers ship 6 to 10 fewer pieces of fruit per unit than Washington due to pack size
• The Bartlett season is forecast to begin in mid-August; new crop D’Anjou production will start in late August
