FROM THE FIELDS: Light Ice in the Desert Region
Harvesting crews in the Arizona/California desert growing region will be delayed until approximately 8:30-9:00 AM (MST) this morning due to light ice on lettuce, tender leaf, and other crops. This is the first recurrence of ice in approximately two weeks after much more severe lettuce ice impacted crops throughout the industry in late December and early January.
Weekend weather is expected to be windy and very warm with temperatures in the mid-to-upper 70s, but a low pressure system moving into the area will bring a chance of rain on Monday and Tuesday, the 26th and 27th; up to .30 inches are possible.
This latest volatile weather pattern will continue to impact quality and shelf life of desert crops. Markon inspectors will be monitoring supplies and will update further as needed.
