UPDATE: Broccoli
January 23, 2017
Expect higher prices next week. Low temperatures and rain are lowering yields on the West Coast. Tight supplies will keep the market elevated for the next two weeks until production increases. Ready-Set-Serve contract triggers could be met next week.
- Markon First Crop (MFC) Broccoli Crowns are available to load in South Texas and Yuma, Arizona
- Limited supplies in Florida and Mexico are driving demand to the West Coast
- Overall quality is very good, but problems such as discoloration, inconsistent size, and mildew are lowering yields
- Stocks in the Arizona/California desert are being supplemented with product from Northern Mexico, but issues with labor disputes and delayed border crossings are affecting arrivals
