FROM THE FIELDS: Desert Harvesting Delays & Cancelations
Growers in the Arizona/California desert growing region are experiencing significant harvesting delays today after overnight and early morning rainfall created poor harvesting conditions. Some have canceled harvests altogether. Approximately 1”-1.25” could be recorded in total as more sporadic showers are expected throughout the day. More rain is forecast to return on Saturday, December 24 due to another cold trough passing through; another .10”-.30” of rain is forecast.
Rain-related quality and supply issues will develop in desert region row crops as a result of these storm systems. Markon inspectors are monitoring commodity fields and value-added finished product supplies closely and will update further as the situation unfolds.
