UPDATE: BELL PEPPERS

April 20, 2021

The green bell pepper market is falling; Florida weather is slowing harvest but supplies are ample in Mexico and California. Red bell pepper prices are active this week due to strong demand.

Green Bells

  • Markon First Crop (MFC) and Markon Essentials (ESS) Green Bell Peppers are available
  • Mexico has ample stocks
    • New crop Sonora production has begun
    • Medium sizes dominate stocks
  • Florida is seeing lower volume this week due to rain; muddy fields are delaying harvests
  • California inventories are increasing and set to replace the bulk of West Coast supplies within two weeks; medium sizes are scarce
  • Expect lower markets for this week
  • Quality is excellent

  • Mexican production has dropped slightly as many growers harvested red pepper crops for the last two weeks and sold them on the high-priced green bell market
  • California’s Coachella Valley season is three to four weeks away
    • Peppers are near maturity and of excellent quality
    • Higher temperatures are needed to start the coloring process
  • Canadian greenhouse growers are expecting lighter yields over the next two weeks further increasing demand in Mexico
