UPDATE: California Citrus
February 24, 2017
California’s primary citrus growing region has received 0.75” to 1.25” of rain over the past several days, delaying harvests. Clear skies are forecast for the next four days, which will allow production to resume, but another 0.50” to 0.75” is forecast to fall Saturday evening through Monday afternoon. Expect tight supplies on oranges and lemons through next week.
- Markon First Crop and Markon Essentials Lemons and Oranges are sporadic; packer label is being substituted as needed
- Orange supplies remain limited, especially 113-count and smaller sizes
- Flexibility on size, grade, and variety may be needed for order coverage
- Lemon stocks are also tightening due to rain, especially 140-count and smaller sizes
- Favorable weather for the next few days will allow growers to resume harvesting before more weather hits this weekend
- The market is slightly higher than normal
Markon will continue to update as these storms progress.
