UPDATE: Ventura County Wild Fire

December 05, 2017

A wild fire, called the Thomas Fire, broke out just north of Santa Paula, California on Monday, December 4 at approximately 6:30 p.m. PST. By early Tuesday morning, December 5, the fire had spread to more than 40,000 acres, leading to mandatory evacuations and power outages to more than 260,000 homes and businesses.

Extremely strong, warm winds that blow from the inland desert to the Pacific Coast (known as Santa Ana winds) were recorded up to 60 mph, causing the brush fire to spread at a rate of an acre per second. Strong winds persist with zero percent containment into Tuesday morning.

Ventura County is home to many agriculture and produce businesses. Mandatory evacuations, power outages, and road closures are expected to cause production and loading delays at the following suppliers through most of the week:

  • Boskovich
  • Calavo
  • Dole
  • Deardorff
  • Driscoll’s
  • Duda
  • Gill’s Onions
  • Limoneira
  • Sunkist
