UPDATE: Truck Operator Strike in Mexico
In response to a policy change in Mexico that de-regulated fuel prices and increased costs suddenly, approximately 500,000 commercial and public vehicle drivers went on a 24-hour strike Monday, January 2, affecting multiple states throughout Mexico.
The majority of produce commodities imported into the U.S. from Mexico are in ample supply. Few to no delays have been reported at this point, but should the strike continue, Markon expects border delays, crossing times, and supply levels to impact multiple commodities.
Commodities that could be affected:
- Asparagus
- Avocados
- Bell Peppers
- Broccoli
- Cauliflower
- Cilantro
- Cucumbers
- Green Onions
- Squash
- Strawberries
- Tomatoes
Markon will be monitoring the situation closely and continue to update as needed.
